Dennis “Denny” W. Hampton, 79, of Ankeny, passed away on January 24, 2023, surrounded by loving family and friends after a long battle with Alzheimer’s.

Denny was born December 27, 1943, to Carl and Gladys (Stater) Hampton in Des Moines, Iowa.

He joined the US Marine Corps in 1961 and was a proud member of the Marine Reserves until his honorable discharge in 1967. He was also a member of Electricians Union IBEW Local 347 for 30 years. Denny was passionate about carpentry, photography, and family. His dedication and skills have been preserved in many ways, from the family home re-built and designed by hand to a fully electric dollhouse currently on display at Ankeny Area Historical Society.

Denny is preceded in death by his siblings, brother, Ronnie Hampton; sister, Patty (Hampton) Shaw; and son, Shawn Hampton.

He is survived by wife, Janet Hampton; sister, Jacqueline (Jerry) Schmaltz); sons, Rod (Judy) Leach, Richard “Dick” (Mary) Boxx-Hampton, and Jason Hampton; many nieces, nephews and eight grandchildren, Tiffany (Dan) Reeves, Danielle (Daniel) Boxx-Hampton, Nicole Boxx-Hampton, Ryan Bischoff, Nick (Haleigh) Leach, Amanda Leach, Cody Hampton and Alex Boxx-Hampton.

Denny will be buried at Iowa Veteran’s Cemetery with a celebration of life to be announced at a later date.

He will be missed by all and loved forever.
