Retired Brother Jerry D. Thompson

Des Moines - Jerry Dean Thompson was born on February 20, 1930 in Dodd City, AR to John Emory Thompson and Elizabeth Sumpter Thompson. Jerry died at the VA hospital in Des Moines, IA on September 28, 2021. Jerry lived in Buick and Black, MO; Indiana; Marshalltown, Altoona, and Des Moines, IA. Jerry was an Army Veteran who served in the Korean War for 6 years. He also worked at Marshall Electric in Marshalltown and Firestone Tire Company in Des Moines.

Jerry had three children, Theresa (Mark) North, Kevin (Lori) Thompson, and Richie Thompson, with his first wife Mary Lou Vance. He was the proud grandfather of five grandchildren. Jerry's siblings included Willard, Pearl, Mona, Levon, Gurney, Henry, Pete and his twin-brother, Perry. His step-siblings included Bess, Agnes, Winnie, Wanda, Mable, Molly and Betty.

Jerry's second wife, Freda Rumelhart Thompson, passed away only a week before him. Jerry's step children include Gregory Duke, Darwin, Gary, and Tom Campbell, and Linda Mark.

Jerry enjoyed coaching little league baseball, singing, playing guitar, cards, mushroom hunting, college basketball, sudoku puzzles, bingo, and going to auctions with Freda. He was a passionate bowler who won numerous trophies and only stopped in his late eighties. He had a sharp wit and was quick with a joke. Most importantly, he loved his wife dearly and was very proud of his family, especially his grandchildren.
