Des Moines - Joseph Melvin Keul, 90, passed away on July 14, 2021 at Valley View Village in Des Moines, Iowa.

He was born the son of Karl and Truie (Townsend) Keul on October 3, 1930 in Des Moines, Iowa. Mel was united in marriage to his first wife, Donna Ragan in 1948 in South Dakota. They had three children together; Richard, William, and Michael. After his first wife, Donna died in 1966, Mel met Shirley (De Vries) and later married her on September 9, 1967 at Indianola Heights Evangelical Free church in Des Moines, Iowa.

Melvin graduated from Lincoln High school in 1948. After high school he went into an electrical apprenticeship program, becoming a Journeyman / Master electrician. Melvin started his own electrical contracting company, Keul Electrical Service Inc. in 1959.
